SFU Women's Centre: Over 35 years on the Hill !

The Women's Centre Collective grew out of the Women's Caucus of the Simon Fraser Student Society, which held its first meetings in 1968. The first Women's Centre on campus opened in 1974, and many years later the Centre moved to its current space in TC 3013.

The Centre's presence on campus has brought about the improvement of campus childcare facilities, the organizing of International Women's Day events, December 6 vigils, self-defense classes and other programming.

Male Allies Project

In the coming fall the SFU Women's Centre will be spearheading a male allies project, which will provide self-idtenfied male students a space on campus to discuss what it means to be male in the 21st century, how to be a feminist man, and try to envision new ways of preforming masculinity. Please come to our kick off event on September 22 from 1:00-3:00pm, become a model or write an essay. Check out our Male Allies Page for the details and feel free to contact us or fill out our volunteer form (just be sure to check off that you want to be a male ally) if this sounds like something you are interested in.

Volunteer Orientation

We always love to have volunteers help support and anchor this fabulous place. Just come to one of our volunteer orientation dates to learn what you can do to help the women's centre run smoothly. Orientations are running Tuesday September 21st 1:30-3:00 pm and Wednesday September 29th 1:30-3:00 pm.

A Proud Member of the Rotunda

Located between the Gym and the Maggie Benston Centre, the Rotunda is a space where students can meet to organize and socialize on campus. Attached to the Rotunda are 6 groups: the Women's Centre, Out On Campus, the First Nations Student Association, SFPIRG, CJSF, and African Carribean Heritage Students' Association, each of which contribute immesurably to the student experience on campus, and are great allies of the Women's Centre. To learn more about the Rotunda groups please visit www.studentrotunda.ca.
